1. ADMISSION

Q: How can I submit my applications and audition materials?
A: All applications and audition materials must be submitted online. (www.gmmfs.com) The process will be easier and faster if you prepare all information required in advance: personal information, financial information, audio/video files you wish to upload, and billing information for application fee payment.

Q: Is submitting audition materials with my application required?
A: If you have never attended GMMFS or attended prior to 2016, the answer is YES. If you attended GMMFS in 2016, your audition will be waived only if you submit your application by the deadline, January 20, 2017 (KST). All applicants applying for Financial Aid must submit audition recordings. If you have attended for multiple years, please read the instructions carefully; up-dated recordings might be requested.

Q: What format should I use for uploading my audition materials?
A: GMMFS electronic application system supports the following audio/video formats:
Video – avi, m4v, mp4, mpeg, mpg, wmv
   Audio – mp3

Q: Do I need to record my audition materials with an accompanist?
A: An accompanist is not required for the audition recordings, but recommended.

Q: I want to apply for a Scholarship, but all I see is the Financial Aid form. What do I do?
A: At GMMFS, Financial Aid and Scholarship are the same thing. We grant aid to those in financial need and help as many people as we can.

Q: Do I need to submit my résumé or bio?
A: It is not required but we highly recommend applicants to submit their résumé, C.V. or a brief bio that lists relevant experiences (teachers, summer festivals, competitions, master classes and workshops, etc.) to your educational and performance career.

Q: How can I pay for my application fee?
A: You can pay your application fee through online payment system on our website. Please visit www.gmmfs.com for details.

Q: Are there any other payment options other than online payment method?
A: Unfortunately, other payment options including cash, checks, or money orders will not be available. If you have a problem making a payment through online payment system, please contact us.

2. SCHOOL PROGRAMS

Q: If I list a teacher as my first choice, will I definitely study with that person?
A: This depends on the faculty member you choose. Every effort is made to assign at least one lesson with a first-choice teacher. However, this will depend upon the number of requests for that teacher, and the individual performance schedule, and residency. You should, however, have enough information about teacher assignments before the payment deadlines. It is best that you make a careful consideration and selection of your preferences; requesting only one teacher does not offer any advantage for multiple lessons with that teacher.

Q: Will I be able to perform at GMMFS?
A: Most likely the answer is yes. To perform on a student recital, students need to have a faculty member recommend them. You can request a recommendation during your lessons. Since the later recitals fill up most rapidly, you should arrive at the festival prepared with a polished piece and be attentive to recital sign-up procedures and deadlines.

Q: How can I apply for Concerto Competition?
A: Please download the application form from the website, fill out the form and submit it by email (school@gmmfs.com) by the deadline. More information regarding repertoire will be announced after March.

Q: How can I apply for Student Recital?
A: You can apply after you arrive at the GMMFS site. Please come to the School Office at Festival zone, and fill out the student recital request form with your repertoire and the date you wish to perform.

Q: Is performing in chamber music and orchestra mandatory?
A: No. Many students wish to participate in chamber music and are assigned to ensembles by the School Administration.
Students can choose to perform in orchestra, which has three rehearsals, a dress rehearsal and one or more performance. Students who receive Financial Aid from GMMFS may be placed to participate in orchestra.

Q: Can students attend the Distinguished Artists Series?
A: Yes. All students receive tickets to all concerts as part of their tuition. Parents and guests can purchase season pass in advance. If they want to purchase tickets to individual performances, please send email to school@gmmfs.com.

Q: Where can I practice?
A: GMMFS students can use their rooms and practice room facilities provided by GMMFS during the festival. Practice rooms are located in the both resorts, and reservation must be made in person. Students are required to visit school office in person and sign up for practice hours.

3. STUDENT LIFE

Q: Can you explain about the facilities at GMMFS site?
A: There are 2 main facilities at the GMMFS site–Alpensia and YongPyong resorts. Students will be able to fully enjoy the School programs and Distinguished Artists Series concerts held at the Alpensia resort. Students will be housed at the YongPyong Resort. It is mandatory to live in on-site School facility and a convenient 10 minute shuttle-bus service will be provided during the school period.

Q: Where do I eat and what can I have there?
A: GMMFS has its own dining facilities. Breakfast will be only provided at YongPyong Resort, and the lunch and dinner will be only provided at Alpensia Resort. In both cafeterias, we offer buffet style meals – you can enjoy western and also Korean traditional food.

Q: My parents are coming to the festival with me. Do they have to buy a meal plan?
A: No. Parents can arrange their own meals. The resort has a number of options to purchase meals and food at convenience stores, restaurants, and cafes.

Q: Where on festival zone is wireless connectivity available?
A: Yes. YongPyong Resort offers free Wifi service, and students may use free wifi service in designated locations including Alpensia Concert Hall and Convention Center.
