Admissions & Audition Requirements

Online Application

Complete the application forms, upload your audition recordings, submit your résumé, and make application fee payment through the PyeongChang Music Festival & School online application process. The process will be easier if you have all information required in advance. All pre-formed ensemble program applicants need to choose a representative of their team before they register individually. Please note that all pre-formed ensemble program applications will be also considered as individual instrumental program applications.

There is no student age limit, but the program is designed to best serve the older, more experienced student. Children younger than 14 are advised to attend the Festival with a parent or guardian. All students are assigned to a Resident Counselor at the Festival, regardless of age.

Audition Requirements

All audition materials must be submitted through our website, www.gmmfs.com. All audition materials must be recorded within the past year. Please note that submitting audition materials other than using our system on the PyeongChang Music Festival & School website would NOT be accepted. No CDs or DVDs. Please follow the instruction on our website, www.gmmfs.com.

New and Past Participants prior to 2016 PyeongChang Music Festival & School

All applicants are required to submit the audition recording online.

Returning students

If you have attended PyeongChang Music Festival & School for more than 3 consecutive years without sending a recent recording, it is strongly advisable that you do so, particularly if you have changed programs or teachers (such as going from a pre-college to college-level programs) The School Administration may request these recordings to make final teacher assignments, master class participation decisions, as well as other artistic ions. The recording should be at the time of the first payment due.

2016 PyeongChang Music Festival & School Participant

Individual instrumental program applicants who attended 2016 PyeongChang Music Festival & School, are not required to submit the audition recording if they file the application by the admission deadline January 20, 2017 (KST). LATE APPLICANTS MUST SUBMIT RECENT RECORDINGS.

Financial Aid applicant

All applicants applying for Financial Aid must submit audition recordings.

Repertoire

Individual Instrumental Program

  • Violin | Viola | Cello

    two contrasting pieces or movements of your choice

  • Piano

    three contrasting pieces or movements of your choice from at least two different composers/periods (between 10-15 minutes of music)

Pre-formed Ensemble Program (required)

  • String Quartet

    two contrasting pieces or movements of any length that best present your group’s current level of playing
    two contrasting pieces or movements of your choice from solo works

Supported audio/video formats
PyeongChang Music Festival & School electronic application system supports the following audio/video formats:
  • Video - avi, m4v, mp4, mpeg, mpg, wmv
  • Audio - mp3

Documentation

All applicants are encouraged to send a current performance résumé or bio.
Please note that all documentation should be translated into English.
You may submit performance résumé, bio and/or any required documentation when you fill out the online application, or send by Email:school@gmmfs.com

Application Fee

If you would like to pay application fee and participation fee in KRW(₩), please log on to the Korean online application page and fill out the Korean application form. Once paid, all fees are non-refundable. An application is not considered complete until the fee is paid. Only complete applications will be evaluated by the auditioning faculty.

All applicants are required to submit a non-refundable application fee of $75 USD. Each member of a pre-formed ensemble group must make an individual, non-refundable application fee payment.

$100 late application fee will be effective after the deadline, January 20, 2017.

$100 application fee if received after January 20, 2017 (KST)

It will appear as Gangwonarts or Gangwon Arts and Culture Foundation on your receipt.
Please submit application fee through our website by January 20, 2017.
Please do NOT send cash, money order, or check by mail. Online payment only.

Notification of Acceptance

Notification of acceptance e-mails will be sent out beginning March 10, 2017. Applications will be accepted with late fee, and may not be considered until after the initial decisions are complete. Applicants will be notified in a timely manner.
Please note: Notification of acceptance will be sent to the applicant email address on your application. Make sure your email address is valid.
