Kyung-Wha Chung

Violinist Kyung Wha Chung had studied under Ivan Galamian at the Juilliard School. She debuted in the United States by co- winning 1st prize Edgar Leventritt Competition and performing with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra in 1968 and debuted in Europe by playing with London Symphony Orchestra conducted by Andre Previn in 1970. She has been cited by the Sunday Times of London as one of the most important contributors to the British cultural scene in 1982 and in 1988 she was announced as one of the five great violinist by the Time magazine. Her recording of Stravinsky•Walton concerto won the Edison award and her recording of Beethoven•Bruch won Japanese Record Academy Award. Also, her recording of Respighi•Strauss Sonata and Bartók's Violin Concerto No.2 alongside Rhapsodies Nos.1 and 2 won coveted Gramophone Award. Also her recording of Brahms Sonata won Diapason D'or award. In 2007, she joined Juilliard as a member of the faculty of the school's Music and Pre-College Divisions.
